Since 2009, we have worked to expand our local community projects into international networks. This area has since grown beyond all initial expectations. Since our decision to work on our delivery of the international dimension, we have been awarded over €235.000 in funding for our projects, been appointed the coordinating school of four European projects, and visited many more countries than ever before. In recognition of our hard work, in 2011, we were awarded the International Schools Award. This is the highest standard on offer to schools for their work on the international dimension. We were reaccredited in 2014 as our international ethos continues to develop and thrive.
Of course, at the heart of our international work are our pupils. We continually look for ways to offer our pupils as many enriching experiences as possible in order to fully engage them with the world around us. Most of all, we want to develop well-rounded, life-long learners and recognise that the best way to do this is to offer a multitude of ways to enrich the curriculum. The great successes of our international projects still only make up a small part of the wide variety of opportunities on offer at The Abbey School.
Our newest project that has received funding will allow us to continue our foreign language project with our partner school in Tahiti. We have been granted over €84,000, which will allow us to exchange staff and students, giving all of our students the opportunity to experience another culture. We will be applying for further funding and opportunities, as our international partnerships allow us to continue to be innovative and internationally recognised for our work.
