December Project Update

The project proceeds apace and no major issues have been encountered on the first phase of this exciting project.

The South transept of S Block building is now completed with good progress being made on the rest of S-Block which should be predominantly completed before the Christmas.

Andrew Heap Business Manager commented
“I am pleased with the progress to date and in fact we are a little ahead of the project time lines. The interruption to curriculum has been minimal and staff and students have been incredibly supportive. The new glazing and panelling has completely transformed and lifted the appearance of the rooms. The Abbey School will have the first part of it's strategic property strategy in place providing appropriate accommodation for a good school that is improving year on year.“

Re-cladding Project Overview

We were successful in our bid (May 2013) to replace the facade of our main building (A and S block) which was built in the 1950's and comprises over 55% of our classroom spaces. This development will completely transform the school and in fact it will look like a 'new school.’

This will improve the overall appearance of the school but will also fundamentally improve the environment for teaching and learning. Rooms will be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. We will be able to restructure teaching spaces to accommodate new courses and redevelop existing areas. It will look like a new school without the attendant cost and upheaval and has allowed us to plan for future developments.
