Kent County Council (KCC) provide a subsidised Kent-wide bus pass for any Year 12-14 student in education. The normal price for this would be £750, but KCC pays the first £350 of this, meaning that the cost for a student is brought down to £400. The pass allows you to travel throughout Kent whilst it is valid, not just to and from Faversham.
KCC does not supply the equivalent train pass service – any students wishing to take the train will have to arrange payment themselves.
Whether you are entering Year 12 or Year 13, you need to submit a fresh application – no bus passes from 2016/17 are valid beyond 31/08/2017.
From the 5th June. 2017 applications for the Kent 16+ Travel Card scheme can be made direct to Kent County Council for 2017/18. KCC will send your pass to the school at the start of the new academic year provided your application is received by KCC, Public Transport on or before Friday 14th July 2017. Payment is still made to the Abbey School and should not be sent to the KCC. Please see Payment section below.
Applications can be made online at kent.gov.uk/post16travel. You will need a passport style photograph stored in the appropriate format to do so. Alternatively, complete a paper application – available to print from the 6TH Form pages – and return it together with a passport size photograph to ; Kent 16+ Travel Card, Public Transport, Kent County Council. The school will pay KCC directly, so please provide a cheque made payable to 'The Abbey School' for £134 when collecting your travel pass. We will split the £400 payment into three lump sums of £134, £133 and £133, payable in September, in January and in April.
If you are eligible for a bursary, the Bursary Form - available to print from the 6th Form pages - should be completed and submitted when collecting your pass as the payment terms will be different. If you are not sure whether you are entitled to a bursary, the information is found on the website or can be sent to you.
If you leave The Abbey 6th Form prior to the end of the academic year, the card must be handed back to the school and will be cancelled and returned to KCC.
