image1Former Abbey School and Dover Athletic Football Academy player Sean Raggett has signed for Championship Club Norwich City on a 3-year contract.

Sean studied at The Abbey School during 2010-2012 whilst playing for the Football Academy.

"This is a fantastic achievement for Sean and we couldn't be prouder at the Football Academy. The Academy provides students with the opportunity to improve and develop as footballers whilst gaining an excellent education"

"Sean is a great example for any young players coming through the system that has aspirations of being a professional footballer"

"Sean's work ethic has made his dream a reality and we will continue to track his progress"

The Abbeys Schools Ethos of 'Be the best you can be' could not be more fitting at the moment.

Well done Sean!

The Abbey School Newsletter

Each year, we produce six school newsletters. These are an excellent way to draw attention to some of the many activities that go on in school and of course a great way to highlight some of the students' excellent work.

International Baccalaureate World School Status – June 2017

IB World School Logo

As a school, we are extremely proud of achieving the IB World School Status after 4 years of work from its initial inception to today.

We will be the only school in Swale and Canterbury Coastal with the IB World Status offering the IB Careers Programme and we are well placed in the longer term to benefit from the unique position this gives to the 6th form.

The success of the programme is reflected in the ever improving results…. The students outperforming the average outcome in the 6th form. This year’s results have just been received and the results are very strong.

Miss Haran, Mr Clarke and I will be presenting at half-term in The Hague to other schools who are interested in introducing the qualification.

Our new ‘Rewards Words’

In line with the changes to our ‘Values and Ethos’ of RESPECT, the school community has adopted new ‘Rewards Words’. The 5 words are known as LORIC and are:

LEADERSHIP
e.g. time management, problem-solving
ORGANISATION
e.g. showing commitment, working under pressure
RESILIENCE
e.g. making decisions, acting responsibly, collaborating
INITIATIVE
e.g. creativity and seeing the value in being of service to others
COMMUNICATION
e.g. editing, presenting, matching form and content to the audience

These will be used by staff to reward students for academic performance, effort, community work, work in tutor activities, events and visits, and coaching and mentoring.

Form Time activities and PSHE

Pixl Edge LogoAs of September 2017, we will be introducing The PiXL Edge to further enhance the excellent pastoral and PSHE programme we currently offer.

We have achieved an Outstanding Ofsted thematic inspection and we want to further develop what we offer our students.

Students will now be able to qualify for certificates for the work they undertake in form and community work. There are 3 levels:

Level 1
Apprentice
Y7 to Y9
Level 2
Graduate
Y10 to Y11
Level 3
Master
Y12 to Y13

At each level, there are a variety of approved activities that students can undertake for each of the key attributes. We anticipate that each level will take between one and three years to complete. Level 3 will allow students to claim UCAS points for their university applications.

Exciting opportunities!
