Teacher of Geography

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, resourceful and committed teacher to support improving student achievement within the Geography Department from September 2018.

 

The role is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is an enthusiastic, talented and passionate teacher of Geography, with the ability to demonstrate exceptional skills to engage and inspire students in their learning. The department is well resourced and a popular option at GCSE and A Level. Applications from NQT’s would be welcomed.

 

The successful candidate will be motivated and committed to working as part of a team, have strong, up-to-date subject knowledge and be committed to ensuring students in their care make exceptional progress.

 

Ofsted February 2017 confirmed the school continues to provide a good education for all of its pupils. They noted several strengths including “strong leadership, the quality of teaching, improving exam results, a vibrant sixth form, good behavior, and an excellent level of care and safety”.

 

We have an ambitious vision for our school driven by our excellent team to ensure our students experience as much Outstanding and Good practice as possible. In line with this we are looking for a candidate who can regularly deliver lessons to these standards.

 

The Abbey School is a wide ability 11-19 Academy of 1090 students, with over 170 students in the sixth form. We are also an IB world school and offer the IBCP (International Baccalaureate Careers Programme) and are currently oversubscribed in year 7. We have a very positive team with high staff morale.

Examinations & Cover Manager

Required January 2018

Salary Pay Band KR6: £19,609 to £21,509 FTE Pro Rata

The Abbey School wishes to appoint a well-organised and experienced person to be responsible for the efficient and effective running of the administration of all internal and external examinations within the school, including liaising with staff, pupils, invigilators and examination boards. You will be responsible for providing cover for planned and unplanned absence of teachers and will manage the workload of the in-house Cover Supervisors.

 

An excellent understanding of spreadsheet and word processing applications is essential. As well as inputting data, you will create and run reports from the system and carry out administrative and other duties. You will also be responsible for organising the school’s external exam invigilators, including training and ensuring up-to-date information is provided to them.

 

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in an administration role and possess a good working knowledge of SIMS and Microsoft Excel. They will have a flexible approach to tasks and be resilient under pressure. We are seeking a team player, who is able to organise their workload, and who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

 

The working hours will be as follows:

37 hours a week, 43 weeks a year, with 3 weeks being worked in August and 5 days being staff development days.

3 weeks in August – the week of A Level results, the week of GCSE results and a week after these to start preparation of mark sheets for new school year.
