Year 7 & 8
Year 8 have had only one tournament this year due to poor weather; they won two games and drew one. Year 7 have displayed excellent talent with their fielding and batting skills, with great performances from Eliza Wood, Niamh Brewer and Izzy Martin. Captain Holly Kirrage has shown excellent leadership skills.
Year 9 & 10
Rounders got underway during Term 5 with fixtures taking place against nearly every school in the district. This is the second year of a new format for how the fixtures take place. We now have a host school on a weekly basis and two other schools travel to this venue. This has proved more competitive and given the girls more of a challenge as they play in a mini-tournament format.
The Year 9s got underway first and had games at Barton Court and here at the Abbey. They played CCW and Canterbury High. We managed a narrow win over CCW but unfortunately lost our game to Canterbury High. Some great batting performances from Saffron Elysee and Niamh Sherlock helped the team secure the win against CCW. However as the girls have played more and more together they have really improved their fielding performance as well as their tactics. The Year 9 girls have been very keen and have played well in a number of games, one of their best performances was against Barton Court. They lost the game but the effort, enthusiasm and their respect for the other team was a pleasure to see. They motivated and encouraged one another and were very gracious in defeat. The Year 9 and 10 teams will play in the District Tournament which is at the end of June and hosted by Archbishops. The girls are really looking forward to this tournament and will be hoping to perform well and finish the season strong.
The Year 10s have also been in action against a lot of teams from the District with fixtures coming thick and fast. They suffered narrow defeats against Barton Court and Herne Bay High at one tri-fixture and then also at QE they lost to Canterbury High and QE, the squad has been depleted due to show rehearsals and injuries, but the team are looking forward to the upcoming District Tournament at the end of June and will be fielding their strongest squad for this which could catch a few teams they have already played off guard.
